Are You Forgetting To Exfoliate HERE?

Originally published as Are You Forgetting To Exfoliate HERE? from the Mario Badescu Skin Care Blog.

Uh-oh.

tanner

As an ex-sun bather (and—ughtanning bed user), I’ve learned to just embrace my skin as is. Do I wish I could be as bronzed as the girls on Instagram? Totally. But I’ll pass on the age spots, fine lines, and sagging bound to come with overexposure, thank you very much.

tannerSurprisingly, I haven’t had the urge to tan just yet this year, but as it turns out, I actually have a need to bronze up ASAP. I have a performance this weekend (I’m moonlighting as a salsa dancer) and after a long winter of hiding under layers, I’m looking a bit sallow. If I’m looking  winter-worn now, imagine how much worse I’ll look under unflattering stage lights!

Thus marks my first foray with self-tanners. (Wait, you do know about the Oil-Free Self-Tanning Lotion, right?)

Catching up on Game of Thrones was set aside for a night of researching and scouring the web for tanner tips and tricks. Determined not to be a victim of streaky tans and scaly, patchy fading, I found that serious head-to-toe exfoliation was paramount to an even tan (I love using the Botanical Exfoliating Scrub and Raspberry Body Scrub for the face/neck/chest and body, respectively).

These are the spots we tend to forget to exfoliate (or neglect altogether):

  • Tops of the feet
  • Around the ankles
  • Behind the knees
  • Backs of the hands
  • Neck
  • Chest

Exfoliating every nook and cranny isn’t just important for a successful self-tan, though: It’s crucial part of keeping skin healthy, smooth, and glowing.

What are your self-tanning tips & tricks?

Healthy Food for Healthy Skin: The Recipe Roundup

Originally published as Healthy Food for Healthy Skin: The Recipe Roundup from the Mario Badescu Skin Care Blog.

If there’s something we love more than skin care (believe us, there are very few things that top the list), it’s food. We’re willing to admit that yes, you should eat to live, but mindful eating allows you to live to eat. Yes, we can have it all: we can be happy and healthy and have beautiful skin!

Here’s what’s on our anti-aging, skin-brightening menu this week:

BREAKFASTBreakfast 2

Through the Garden Smoothie (via Nutrition Stripped)

There couldn’t have been a better name for this. When you’re in the mood for a light, pick-me-up breakfast or instant refresher throughout the day, this is the smoothie to make. You’ve got your beets, your baby spinach, red pepper, green apple, strawberries, lemon juice, bee pollen—all packed with minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.

LUNCHLunch 2

Fully Loaded Spring Samosas (via My New Roots)

Are you drooling too? (Don’t leave us hanging, here.) Samosas are fun to make, indulgent to eat, but the best part about this one? It’s baked—not deep-fried—and not to mention, packed with all our favorite, good-for-you veggies.

DINNERDinner 2

Ultimate Green Taco Wraps with Lentil-Walnut Taco ‘Meat’ (via Oh She Glows)

Tacos are the ultimate indulgence—so when they’re vegan, gluten-free, and all-around healthy, you can bet that we were all over this on Taco Tuesday. You’ve got the leafy greens, the antioxidant-rich red veggies, and the star of the show—omega 3-packed walnuts—for beautiful, glowing skin.

For Younger-Looking Hands

Originally published as For Younger-Looking Hands from the Mario Badescu Skin Care Blog.

younger-looking handsWe put so much effort into keeping our faces, necks, and décolletage looking young, it can be easy to forget to care for our hands, can’t it?

(Wait, you ARE taking care of your neck and décolletage, right?)

Anyway, your hands tell the world a lot about you. Every word typed, each baby held, and all of the dishes washed—they’re all there, on display. And while we should be proud of all that our hands have done, it can’t hurt to keep them looking as hydrated, age spot-free, and youthful as possible, can it?

Here’s how to do it:

  • younger-looking hands Use VITAMIN C to help fade age spots and sun spots as well as protect hands from damaging, aging free radicals. If you don’t already have it, our Vitamin C Serum is mean for use on the face but can most definitely be used on the hands too!
  • For younger-looking hands, keep everything hydrated. Your cuticles are sometimes a dead giveaway for older hands—keep them exfoliated and deeply moisturized with the Salicylic Acid-based Cuticle Cream. Top it all off with the Special Hand Cream with Vitamin E for allover hand hydration. Bonus points if you sleep with white cotton gloves to help it all sink in!

Getting Rid Of Blackheads

Originally published as Getting Rid Of Blackheads from the Mario Badescu Skin Care Blog.

getting rid of blackheads
Ugh, we hate blackheads. Worst!

For getting rid of blackheads, thank goodness for our Silver Powder. This unusual product doesn’t attempt to ‘pull’ blackheads out like pore strips (a hollow promise, anyway)—it soaks up the oil and debris that cause blackheads in order to eliminate them.

These days, we’re exfoliating first with our *new* Botanical Exfoliating Scrub and then using the Silver Powder. This powerhouse combination is making a HUGE difference in our skin (and that of a few lucky insiders who got to try it in advance)!

Clean pores? Thanks!
